Instrumental Faculty

In 1954, the department of the State Academy of Music, which trained instrumentalists and singers, was divided into two faculties – Instrumental and Vocal. The Instrumental Faculty is the place where students are instructed in all classical instruments and trained for careers as concert artists, concertmasters, soloists, principal players and performers in symphony, opera, operetta, brass and other orchestras, as well as accompanists and teachers. Throughout the history of the faculty, some of the most prominent instrumentalists have taught at the Faculty, many of whom with impressive international careers.

In addition to the classical instruments, the Faculty also offers instruction in the organ, harpsichord, accordion, tenor horn, baritone horn, Celtic harp, as well as the traditional Bulgarian bagpipes (gaida), kaval, gadulka and tambura. The course in Folk Singing is also part of the Faculty.
