Doctoral Degree
The order and conditions for admission to doctoral studies, the training of doctoral students, as well as the conduct of public defense are in accordance with the Law on the Development of the Academic Staff in the Republic of Bulgaria, the Law on Higher Education, the Regulations for the Implementation of the Law on the Development of the Academic Staff in the Republic of Bulgaria, Resolutions of the Council of Ministers, the Regulations for the organization and activities of the NAM.
Individuals who have completed a Master’s degree can apply for doctoral studies. Doctoral studies are carried out according to an individual study plan and include preparation and passing of exams, pedagogical activity and defense of a dissertation work.
According to the Law on Higher Education, the faculty council of the relevant faculty in the higher education institution that trains the doctoral student, selects the research supervisor, approves the curriculum and certifies it annually. The supervisor of a doctoral student can be a qualified person or a PhD. A doctoral student is one who holds the educational degree “Master” and is preparing to acquire the educational and scientific degree “doctor”. The doctorate is conducted in a regular form of study or independent tuition. The duration of study is three years.
The educational and scientific degree “Doctor” is awarded to a doctoral student who has passed the examinations provided for in the curriculum and has defended a dissertation under the terms and conditions of the Law on the Development of the Academic Staff in the Republic of Bulgaria.
In accordance with the Law on Higher Education, doctoral studies can only be carried out in specialties that received a “very good” rating during accreditation.
In the National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” the existing and up to now scientific research doctoral program and the new artistic doctoral program are accredited. The two doctoral programs are equal and received the highest rating of “very good” in the accreditation.
At the NAM, doctoral studies are in the scientific specialty of Musicology and musical art – professional direction 8.3 MUSIC AND DANCE ART.
