Non-EU applicants for study
Information for prospective students, citizens of countries outside the European Union for studies in:
– preparatory course,
– first course for a BACHELOR or MASTER degree after secondary education,
– for a MASTER’s degree after having acquired a bachelor’s or master’s degree,
– for Doctoral candidates
І. Required documents for application:
1. Application to the Rector, containing brief biographical data and desired specialty:
– Application form for admission to the Bulgarian language exam for foreigners;
– Application form for admission to a preparatory course after Secondary education;
– Application form for admission to a preparatory course after Higher education.
- For applicants for the first or preparatory course – a copy of the document for completed Secondary education and a copy of the appendix with the grades, in which the GRADE IN MUSIC DISCIPLINE must be entered.
For MASTER degree candidates + preparatory course – a copy of the Secondary education Diploma and a copy of the Higher education diploma – Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and the application with the grades, average grade of the diploma not less than “good”, Transcript of Records.
For candidates for DOCTORAL + preparatory course – copies of Diplomas for Higher education – Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree and the annexes with the grades.
- For the candidates for the first + preparatory course – a document issued by a competent authority certifying the candidate’s right to continue his studies in the Higher education institutions of the country in which the Secondary education was obtained.
- Certificate of recognized Secondary education acquired in a foreign country, issued by the Regional Department of Education – Sofia – for applicants for the first and preparatory course and for MASTER degree candidates /the documents required for the issuance of this certificate are submitted by the applicant to the Regional Department of Education – Sofia, 17 “Antim I” Str., after issuing the certificate, it is submitted to the National Academy of Music, together with the other documents.
For Master’s, Doctorate or postgraduate studies – documents for recognition of Higher education acquired in a foreign country are submitted to the National Academy of Music Application form for recognition of higher education
- Document for proficiency in the Bulgarian language, issued by a Higher school of the Republic of Bulgaria.
- Medical certificate issued within one month before the date of application – ONLY FOR DOCTORAL CANDIDATES /with or without a preparatory course/.
- Two photos.
- If the documents are not submitted personally by the applicant, but by another person, a power of attorney is required, which must be translated into Bulgarian.
- Declaration of awareness regarding the processing of personal data.
- Data Usage Declaration
- A copy of the passport.
- The documents of all candidates must be submitted on paper and electronic media (CD, Flash memory) and on the electronic media they must be scanned in color with a resolution of 200 dpi and each document must be in a separate file and bear the name of the document.
The documents under points 2, 3 and 6 must be legalized, translated and certified in accordance with the provisions of the international agreements of the Republic of Bulgaria with the country in which they were issued, and in the absence of such – according to the general procedure for legalizations, translations and certifications of documents. The documents must be on paper in one copy with the original apostille/legalization, certifications and signatures, one copy of the legalized, certified and translated documents, as well as on electronic media (CD, Flash memory) and the electronic media must be scanned in color with a resolution of 200 dpi and each document must be on a separate file with the original stamps and endorsements; filename must be the name of the document. All documents are scanned in PDF, only the PHOTO of the applicant must be in JPEG. All scanned files must be up to 20 MB.
Foreign documents must be authenticated (verified) with an “Apostille” or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country, then – legalized by the Bulgarian diplomatic and consular missions in that country or accredited for it. When there is no legalization from the Bulgarian representation in the issuing country, such legalization must be done by the diplomatic representation of the issuing country, accredited for Bulgaria.
Documents originating from countries that are parties to the Hague Convention and provided with an “Apostille” will not be legalized by the Bulgarian diplomatic or consular representation in the respective country or accredited for it. They will be recognized by the Bulgarian authorities when an “Apostille” is placed on them or attached to them in original form. In the event that the documents do not have or cannot be provided with an “Apostille” in order to be effective on the territory of Bulgaria, they must be certified (legalized) according to the generally accepted procedure so far – – to be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country, then – legalized by the Bulgarian diplomatic or consular representation in that country or accredited for it.
ІІ Bulgarian language: for those who do not have the document specified in point 5:
- Candidates who have undergone language and specialized training in a preparatory course at the National Academy of Music, or are proficient in the Bulgarian language, must pass a written and oral exam in the BULGARIAN LANGUAGE. Only those who have successfully passed the BULGARIAN LANGUAGE exams are admitted to competitive exams.
- Candidates who do not speak Bulgarian can take a preparatory course – language /Bulgarian/ and specialized training, within one academic year. The course ends with exams in all studied disciplines. To apply for a preparatory course, the documents listed above must be submitted.
- Those who know the Bulgarian language, but do not have a document for this, appear for exams in the Bulgarian language – written and oral.
ІІІ Deadlines for submitting the documents:
- For first course + preparatory course – until June 25, then from September 1 to September 20. The preparatory course starts in October and ends in May-June.
- For a Master’s degree + preparatory course – for the procedure for recognition of higher education acquired in a foreign country, documents must be submitted – by June 25 in the year of application and payment of a fee of BGN 300, after this period – from 01 to 03 September and payment of a fee of BGN 450 for a fast document verification service; or until January 10 to apply for studies from the second semester of the relevant academic year for candidates who speak Bulgarian. The preparatory course starts in October and ends in May-June.
- For Doctoral degree + preparatory course – for the procedure for recognition of Higher education acquired in a foreign country, documents must be submitted – by June 25, after this period – from September 1 to 30 in the year of application. Training in a preparatory course starts in February /from the second semester of the relevant academic year/ and ends in January of the following year.
In the case of a preparatory course – the exams are held after the completion of the preparatory course.
In the case of direct application for the relevant degree, the entrance exams are held after the full set of documents specified above has been submitted on time and according to an approved schedule.
After submitting the documents to the NAM, they are officially sent to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria for the issuance of a “D visa” certificate.
IV Annual tuition fees for new admissions:
– For a preparatory course – 4000 E
– For the first course for the BACHELOR degree – 5,000 E
– For a Master’s degree – 7000 E
– For Doctoral studies – 8,000 E
V Duration of tuition:
– Preparatory course – one academic year;
– For a Bachelor’s degree – four academic years;
– For a Master’s degree after Secondary education – five academic years;
– For a Master’s degree after obtaining a Bachelor’s degree – one academic year of study in the same specialty; two academic years of study in a specialty other than the one acquired in the Bachelor’s degree;
The preparatory course ends with entrance exams:
– For admission to the first year of a Bachelor’s degree and for admission to a Master’s degree, the minimum passing grade for each of the exams is a Good 4.00 /C/, including for each of the exams in Bulgarian – written and oral separately.
– For admission to study at the ONS doctor, the minimum passing grade for each of the exams is Very good 4.50 /B/, including for each of the Bulgarian language exams – written and oral separately.
