BRASS BAND CONDUCTING

Duration of study: 5 academic years, full-time study

300 credits required (60 for each year of full-time study). They are recruited from compulsory (70%), optional (20%) and optional (10%) disciplines.

At the discretion of the department in which the student is studying his special subject, he may be awarded up to 10 additional credits for the period of study for outstanding performances in the field of musical art and science.

Disciplines studied:

– compulsory: conducting a brass band from score, conducting a brass band, solfege, harmony, history of music, musical folklore, piano, instrumental knowledge, foreign language, polyphony, symphonic orchestration, reading scores, musical analysis, musical aesthetics, history of Bulgarian music;

– electives: pedagogy, philosophy, course choir, piano choir conducting, choral studies, music psychology, vocal training and choral difficulties, pedagogical psychology, composition, organ, choral repertoire and literature, critical annals of concert performance, musical acoustics, old Bulgarian music, music management, church music, piano teaching methodology, history of jazz, improvisation, stylistics and conductor interpretation, piano II, opera dramaturgy, ethics, musical philosophy;

– optional: intellectual property and copyright, introduction to specialized music software, foreign language I and II, sports, history of art.

Method of graduation: graduation concert and master’s thesis defense.

-to conduct brass bands and ensembles; music for motion pictures and television films; to radio and television productions; to dramatic, puppet and other performances; to choreographic productions and dances;

– to train specialists in the field of bras orchestration art;

– to lead organizationally and methodically choral collectives;

– to conduct research work in the field of conducting art.

Work in professional and non-professional compositions, collectives and ensembles; music education institutes; editions, etc. in the positions: brass band conductor, artistic director, teacher, editor, specialist, Methodist.
