Duration of study:
– 2 academic years (four semesters), full-time study, for graduates of a Bachelor’s degree in another specialty.
60 credits per year required. They are recruited from compulsory (70%), optional (20%) and optional (10%) disciplines.
Admission: The conditions for admission to the specialty are published in the Master’s candidate directories for the relevant academic year, available on the NMA website.

– compulsory: Pedagogy, Solfeggio, Piano, Harmony, History of Music, Introduction to Music Analysis, , Harmony with Arrangement, Course Choir, Choral Studies, Philosophy, Musical Aesthetics, Educational Psychology, Hospitalization, Internship, Contemporary Methods in Music Education, Inclusive Education, Implementation of a Research Project, Ethics and pedagogy, Psychology, Current pedagogical practice, Information and communication technologies in education and work in a digital environment; Work on a Master’s thesis with a supervisor.
–optional A – Pedagogical, psychological and private-didactic disciplines: Theory of music education, Traditional and alternative music-education models, Spectrum of musical impact, Methodology of music education and methodology of music training, Music didactics and music-educational material
– optional B – Interdisciplinary and applied-experimental disciplines:
Modern science and music, Latin language and Musica, Musical masterpieces in school programs (elementary schools), Piano choir conducting, Piano, Bulgarian language for foreigners
–optional: Foreign language, Sport
Method of graduation: practical-applied state exam and Master’s thesis defense.
Opportunities for professional realization:
– to be music teachers in the institutions of the preschool and school education system; in specialized secondary music schools or art schools to teach solfege, elementary theory, harmony, polyphony, musical analysis, reading scores, history of music, music literature, instrumental knowledge, orchestration, Bulgarian folk music, musical aesthetics; in the HEIs and the universities with music pedagogy specialties to teach music pedagogy and music theory disciplines; to conduct scientific research work in the field of music pedagogy and methodology of music-theoretical disciplines; to teach in community centers and music schools in theoretical musical disciplines (solfeggio and elementary music theory); to be leaders in the system of preschool and school education, community centers and music schools; to lead the musical life organizationally and methodically; to lead musical collectives; to conduct school choirs and orchestras; to conduct non-professional (amateur) musical ensembles; to work in collectives to develop a methodology for musical education, textbooks on singing and music for general education schools, as well as specialized textbooks and teaching aids in solfege, elementary theory, history of music, musical literature, musical folklore, instrumental knowledge, musical forms of study in secondary music schools or art schools.
As music teachers, they can work in all educational institutions where music is taught, in community centers, editions, etc. – in the positions of teacher, lecturer, editor, conductor of non-professional musical and performing ensembles.
