Basically, the minuet became a favorite genre in Versailles at the era of the Sun King. But its main importance emerged not because it was a favorite of rulers, but due to its capability to reach practically all instrumental genres of the time. This is thanks to its ability to display in a most vivid and concise form, the merits of homophonic organization of instrumental music.
