Sound Engineering

Period of study: 4 academic years, full time.

A total of 240 credits is required to receive a Bachelor's degree, i.e. 60 credits for each year of full-time study. They are accumulated from the compulsory (70%), elective (20%) and optional (10%) subjects.

Compulsory: Introduction to sound engineering; Sound engineering and sound design; Sound equipment; Analogue post-production; Digital post-production; Aural training; Psychoacoustics and psychophysiology; Sound synthesizing and MIDI; Musical acoustics; Multimedia design; Media practice (broadcasting); Media practice (TV); Solfeggio; Harmony; History of music; History of Bulgarian music; Ethnomusicology; Piano; Study of musical instruments; Pedagogy; Conducting a choir from a piano score; Polyphony; Musical analysis

Elective: Theory of sound; Basics of multimedia; Musical and media management; Media post-production; Choral studies; Philosophy; Foreign language; Choral workshop; Symphonic orchestration; Score reading; Composition; Musical aesthetics; Music psychology

Optional: Foreign language – 1 and 2; Sports; History of art; Sound amplifying, film and video systems; Educational psychology; Music philosophy

 Professional qualifications of the graduates:

- To direct the sound environment during music performances and interpret art musical communication processes through management of various sound processing devices; to teach the subject of sound engineering; to do research work in the field of sound engineering and sound equipment;

- To carry out and manage sound recording sessions, programs, mixing and sound effect processes.

Career opportunities: in mass communication media, professional music ensembles and formations; in music educational institutes; in sound recording and other kinds of sound processing studios; in the production of CDs, DVDs, etc., in national and local broadcasting centers and music units; in editorial offices, taking positions as sound engineer, sound effects editor, sound operator, studio expert, expert in sound directing methods, editor.
